DBX 10

Client: Private For Residential
Location: Aspen, Colorado
General Contractor: Clearwater Construction Management
Project Status: Completion Scheduled for Summer 2017

Located in the highly desirable Double Bar X Ranch in Aspen, this 4.8 acre lot was treated with the utmost respect for the surrounding meadow landscape. Orientated towards the white noise of the Roaring Fork River and views up Independence Pass, this house designed by CCY Architects is designed to all but disappear into the surrounding landscape from the vantage point of any passerby. This is achieved through the use of an extensive vegetated roof system that covers half of the roofs on the project. As the Client is an avid art collector, the landscape design was intended to stage sculpture and be sculptural. This is epitomized by the stormwater facilities which, in lieu of being depressions are deliberately sculpted as functional land art as well as the ‘worm berm’ that provides a meandering linear dance between what is man-made and what is natural. The incorporation of a reflecting pool and water cascades adjacent to the stairs enhances the natural tranquility of the project as well as providing an additional reflective dynamic.
