This residential project is situated in approximately 50 acres of open space wildflower meadow shared amongst approximately 15 single family homes. The existing landscaping on the property included a manicured lawn with sagebrush and gamble oak groves. In concert with the renovation of the home, the Client tasked us with removing the existing vegetation and replace with a series of wildflower perennial gardens. To create a new entry walkway to the main door with materials that would complement the architecture. Driven by the influences of Dutch garden designer Piet Oudolf, we used bold bands and swaths of colors in large sweeps of manicured wildflower beds. It was a challenge to please the client by producing instant results in this design as much of it was plant-based and we were starting from seed. It is nearly impossible to see an impact and significant growth in under 3 years. Constant checkups on the watering, careful timing of when the seed went down and tea compost were all part of the solution to attentively achieving maximum growth.
