VILLAGE AT MOUNT CRESTED BUTTE
Client: Private
Location: Mt Crested Butte, Colorado
Project Status: Approvals in progress
The Village at Mount Crested Butte is a 160-acre mixed-use conservation development in the heart of Mt. Crested Butte in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. This master planning effort is addressing the competing needs and wants of how to develop this unique property – the last big parcel of available land in town. The client recognized that addressing community priorities would ensure a better end-product, so care has been taken to include broad community input, as well as gathering technical data from stakeholders. Stakeholder meetings focused on subject matter expertise, including affordable housing, transit, open space and trails, US Forest Service collaboration, and business incubation to name a few. Data and direction garnered from this effort was incorporated directly into the master plan. A virtual open house was successful at engaging the larger Gunnison Valley community. Organizers were impressed with the high attendance, attracted through both traditional advertising channels and by developing relationships with key communicators in the Valley. Even after the open house, these key community members continue to provide a strong informal network to disseminate accurate and timely project information to the public. Information gathered through these outreach channels helped inform the development proposal and provide broad citizen support as the project heads into the entitlement process.
